About North East Hills University:-

North-Eastern Hill University was set up by an Act of Parliament & notified on 19th July 1973 With the stable of the Nagaland University on 6th September 1994, the jurisdiction of NEHU ceased over Nagaland. NEHU has stable itself as an institution of high learning & research of very high quality. In February 1996, the University set up a campus at Tura along the Departments of Garo Education  and English,. Very recently a Department of Rural Development & Agricultural Production has been added to the existing three departments at Tura. At present there are 53 UG colleges permitted to the University including 8 professional colleges. The UG colleges permitted to the University  about 18,000 students and faculty strength is just over 300.
